The song says “All the Gold’s in California,” and many golden opportunities for vacationers await along the 178 CORRIDOR. This 95-mile highway stretches from metropolitan Bakersfield – through the Kern River Valley – to Ridgecrest and the Gateway to Death Valley National Park, providing everything for your next vacation or weekend getaway. The midway point of the corridor is Lake Isabella with plenty of camping, fishing, boating, water-skiing and jet-skiing. Kernville, on the north shore, is a white water haven where the mighty Kern River offers rafting and kayaking for beginners and experts alike. Kernville is also the southern gateway to the Giant Sequoia National Monument.

Death Valley Info Death Valley National Park: A Land of ExtremesHottest, Driest, Lowest: A superlative desert of streaming sand dunes, snow-capped mountains, multicolored rock layers, water-fluted canyons and three million acres of stone wilderness. Home to the Timbisha Shoshone and to plants and animals unique to the harshest deserts. A place of legend and a place of trial. Scotty's Castle Death Valley Scotty told everyone that he built this castle in northern Death Valley with money from his "secret" gold mine. That was not quite the truth. A Chicago millionaire and his wife built their "Death Valley Ranch" in the cool of Grapevine Canyon and they let their friend Scotty live there as a guest.
